Develop and test novel tissue interrogation technologies

There is a critical need to develop new tools and technologies to interrogate human kidney tissue with the necessary molecular breadth and spatial resolution to fully realize the goals of the KPMP. This solicitation aims to form new collaborative partnerships by providing KPMP opportunity pool funds to applicants proposing to deploy novel tissue interrogation technologies on human kidney tissue provided centrally by the KPMP (e.g. nephrectomy).

Proposed technologies must not overlap with currently funded KPMP approaches (for full details see All data from this first “test” phase – which must be completed and uploaded, along with protocols, to the KPMP CH within the first year – will be rigorously compared to existing KPMP technologies and other tissue interrogation platforms funded by this FOA.

Awardees with newly identified technologies that add significant value to the KPMP will be eligible for a second year of KPMP funding and perhaps approval to interrogate KPMP research biopsies obtained from KPMP patient participants. The KPMP Tissue Interrogation Site Approval Committee (TISAC) will evaluate all technologies prior to their utilization on KPMP biopsies.

Five (5) page applications may request up to $100,000 total costs per year for two years.
